For ball-cage universal joints, the maintenance of automobile constant velocity joints is mainly to check the wear conditions and assembly gaps of various components in the inner and outer constant velocity joints.

Under normal circumstances, the outer constant velocity universal joint can be replaced as appropriate; while for the inner constant angular velocity universal joint, if a component is severely worn, it should be replaced as a whole. The six steel balls of the outer constant velocity universal joint are required to have a certain tolerance, and they form a matching piece with the star sleeve. In addition, check the shaft, ball cage, star sleeve and steel ball for dents and wear. If the gap of the universal joint is too large, replace the universal joint.

The maintenance of the inner constant velocity joint includes checking the spherical shell, star sleeve, ball cage and steel ball for dents and wear. If the wear is serious, they should be replaced. The internal constant velocity universal joints can only be replaced as a whole, not individually. When the dust cover, clamp, spring retainer ring, etc. are damaged, universal joint manufacturer should be replaced.
